Sony’s PlayStation 4 will be released on
Nov. 15 and the company has unveiled a lengthy launch FAQ that aims to address
every concern a new owner may have about the PS4, the DualShock 4, available
accessories and features as well as the games available.
Sony published the PS4 launch FAQ on their blog on Oct. 30 and have
updated it to include a more current list of the games that will be available
on Nov. 15. To date, Sony has announced 23 launch titles, including “Knack,”
“Killzone Shadow Fall,” “Call of Duty: Ghosts” and “Battlefield 4.” Sony
recently added “Warframe,” “Super Motherload” and “DC Universe Online” to their
list of games that will be available at launch, and will add more games when
confirmed.
According to Sony, fans should expect to
find the “PS4 system with a 500GB hard drive, a DualShock 4 wireless
controller, a micro-USB cable for charging the Dualshock 4 controller, a
Mono-headset for voice chat, a power cable (1.5m), and an HDMI cable (2.0m),”
inside the box. The PS4 will not support an external hard drive which could
prove troubling down the line as all PS4 games must be downloaded to the HDD.
After plugging in your PS4, users will need
to download a system software update, version 1.50, which will add features
such as remote play, live streaming of gameplay footage, background
downloading, a party chat system and online multiplayer. Sony will release
additional features through scheduled software updates.
For many, the first day with the PS4 will
be about downloading the system update, setting up the various new accounts,
getting comfortable the DualShock 4 controller, trying out a game or two and
maybe trying out the gameplay streaming feature, which automatically records
the last 15 minutes of gameplay and can be edited on the console.
Sony plans to update the FAQ prior to launch, in an attempt to
give feedback to eager fans. While the first reviews of the PS4 and the launch
titles have yet to be released, some gamers expressed concern about the PS4 launch titles,
especially after the announcement that “Watchdogs” was delayed. But, there are
plenty of games scheduled to be released the week after the PS4 and throughout
the remainder of 2013.
